Hong Seok-Hyun is the chairman and CEO of JMnet (JoongAng Media Network), the largest media group in Korea, comprising newspapers, broadcasting, Internet and magazines. After studying electronics engineering at Seoul National University, he obtained a doctorate in economics from Stanford University. Dr. Hong has worked at the World Bank and was also senior fellow at the Korea Development Institute and senior executive vice president of Samsung Corning Inc. He was elected president of the World Association of Newspapers in 2002 and president of the Korean Newspapers Association in 2003. In 2005 he served as the Korean ambassador to the United States. He is also the president of the organizing committee of the World Culture Open (WCO).
