Akio Morita was Chairman of the Board of Sony Corporation. Educated at the Osaka Imperial University (B.A. in physics, 1944), he co-founded Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo K.K. in 1946 with Mr. Masaru Ibuka, which became Sony Corporation in 1958. From 1986–92 he served as Vice Chairman of the Keidanren (Japan Federation of Economic Organizations), and currently serves as a Vice Chairman of its Board of Councilors and Chairman of its Council for Better Corporate Citizenship. Mr. Morita was awarded the First Class Order of the Sacred Treasure by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan in 1991 and was appointed an Honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1992. Mr. Morita was also the Japanese Chairman of The Trilateral Commission and The Japan–United States Business Council.
