Alexia Bertrand is a member of the Parliament of the Brussels-Capital Region where she is the leader of the main opposition party. She is also a member of the Parliament of the French Community. Prior to her election in June 2019, she was the Chief of staff of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium for several years. She holds various Board director positions. She is a non-Executive Director at Ackermans & Van Haaren (Euronext Brussels, part of the BEL20 share index), a diversified group active in 5 key sectors: Infrastructure & Marine Engineering (DEME, one of the largest dredging companies in the world), Private Banking, Real Estate, & Senior Care, Energy & Resources and Growth Capital. She is also a director at Guberna, the Belgian Institute for Directors (promotes corporate governance), at the Belgian American Educational Foundation and at the St Luc foundation (charity foundation for the Brussels’ Saint-Luc University Hospital). She is also a Director of Medical Equipment for Belgium, a non-profit organization that imported medical equipment for hospitals and doctors during the Covid-19 crisis. Mrs Bertrand practiced as a corporate lawyer for nine years (Clifford Chance & Linklaters LLP), as a member of the Brussels’ and New York bars. She holds a Master of Laws degree (LL.M) from Harvard Law School where she taught negotiation and a law degree from the University of Louvain-la-Neuve. She taught negotiation for the Solvay Brussels school’s Executive Education program. She is a member of Zest, a global network of leadership experts. She is also active in politics at a local level in her municipality as leader of her party. Alexia is actively involved in her community by mentoring young students.
