Cristina Garmendia obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Genetics from the Universidad de Sevilla and her PhD from the Severo Ochoa Molecular Biology Center at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She also holds an MBA from IESE (Universidad de Navarra). She served as Minister for Science and Innovation of Spain (2008-2011). Chairwoman of Genetrix and SYGNIS AG, she also co-founded and Ysios Capital Partners, a venture capital firm specializing in life sciences and healthcare, as well as Science & Innovation Link Office (SILO) an advisory firm, and Satlantis, a microsatellite company. Cristina holds Non-Executive Director positions, is also on the Social Council of higher education institutions, as well as of numerous NGOs. Cristina’s institutional role also includes Chairwoman of Cotec Foundation. She is a member of the Boards of Trustees in several Foundations, and is an International Advisor to the Colombian Government’s Productive Transformation Programme. Her work and entrepreneurial vision has been recognized several times with research and business innovation awards.
