Luis de Carlos is the Managing Partner of Spanish and Portuguese law firm Uría Menéndez. Luis de Carlos is considered the leading lawyer in Spain for capital markets work, having over 30 years of experience advising on capital markets, corporate governance, M&A, banking and corporate law matters. Luis joined Uría Menéndez in 1983 and became a partner in 1991. He headed up the Barcelona office between 1993 and 1995 and was responsible for the firm’s professional practice until he was appointed Managing Partner in 2005. In 2016 Luis was named European Managing Partner of the Year at The Lawyer European Awards. Luis de Carlos is a 1982 honours graduate of Universidad Pontificia Comillas, from where he holds a B.A. in Law and a B.A. in Economics. He received his Ph.D. cum laude in Law from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in 1997. Luis de Carlos is a frequent author and lecturer on corporate-related topics. He is active in numerous civic and charitable organisations, serving as Chairman of the ProCNIC Foundation, a research center dedicated to cardiovascular health; Vicepresident of the Ibero American Foundation for the development and strengthening of the Ibero American Community; General Secretary of the Financial Studies Foundation; and Secretary to the board of the Cotec Foundation for Technology Innovation.
