Ornella Barra, born in Italy, now of Monegasque nationality, graduated from the University of Genoa with a degree in pharmacy and embarked on a career in the healthcare sector. Throughout her career, she has held several roles and responsibilities, as member of the Boards of Directors of various companies (both listed and privately held) of the Group. These various transformation cycles led in 2014 to the creation of Walgreens Boots Alliance (Nasdaq WBA), the first global pharmacy-led, health and wellbeing enterprise. Ornella’s current role, which she has held since June 2016, is Co-Chief Operating Officer. It includes responsibilities in Retail Pharmacy International businesses outside the UK, Republic of Ireland U.S., Global Brands, Pharmaceutical Wholesale Division, Global HR, Global CSR, Global Communications and Corporate Affairs, WBAD, Global IT, and shared with Co-COO in Global Supply Chain, Global Marketing and Global Commercial Activities. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of AmerisourceBergen, Generali, IFPW (International Federation of Pharmaceutical Wholesalers), ECR Europe (Efficient Consumer Response) and a member of the International Advisory Council of Bocconi University.
