Dr. Roberto de Ocampo served as Secretary of Finance of the Republic of the Philippines from 1994–98 during the presidency of Fidel Ramos, and as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Development Bank of the Philippines during the presidency of Cory Aquino. Following these, he became the President of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), a leading international business and management graduate school based in Manila from 1998–2006. In 1995, he was named “Global Finance Minister of the Year” by Euromoney magazine—the first Filipino and first ASEAN finance minister to be so recognized. In 1996 and 1997, he was named “Asian Finance Minister of the Year” by the Euromoney and Asiamoney magazines, respectively. As Secretary of Finance, he was concurrently a member of the Board of Governors of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank and an Alternate Governor of the International Monetary Fund. He also served as Chairman of the APEC and ASEAN Finance Ministers in 1997 at the onset of the Asian Financial Crisis and led the formulation of the Manila Framework – the blueprint for analyzing the crisis and formulating the steps to end it and avoid a recurrence in the future. He is currently either Chairman or Board Director of 43 entities both corporate and non-corporate, within and outside the Philippines, is Chairman and CEO of the Philippine Veterans Bank and is Chairman of the Board of Advisors of the RFO Center for Public Finance and Regional Economic Cooperation, an ADB Regional Knowledge Hub. He is also the first Asian to be elected to the board of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the global authority on Sustainability Reporting. He is the recipient of many international awards including Global Finance Minister of the Year, Philippine Legion of Honor, Association of Development Finance Institutions of Asia Pacific (ADFIAP) Man of the Year, Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE), Chevalier of the Legion of Honor of France, Knight of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre, Ten Outstanding Young Men Award (TOYM), several Who’s Who Awards and the 2006 Asian Human Resource Development Award for Outstanding Contribution to Society. Dr. de Ocampo is a product of both De La Salle (grade school and high school) and Ateneo Universities. He received his MBA from the University of Michigan, a post-graduate diploma from the London School of Economics and has been conferred four Doctorates (Honoris Causa) by the De La Salle University in Business Administration, by the University of Angeles City in Public Administration, by the Philippine Women’s University in Laws, and by the San Beda College in Humane Letters.
