William Lin
William Lin holds the position of Executive Vice President for Regions, Cities and Solutions and a member of the executive leadership team at bp plc in London. William and his organisation ensure that the best of bp is brought together to build enduring relationships with countries, cities and corporations to provide integrated and decarbonised energy and mobility solutions at scale. He also has accountability for business and reputation integration in all global regions; for intelligence, security, crisis management and geopolitics; and for managing joint-venture excellence across the firm. William has led many of the most complex corporate development deals for the group, totalling more than $10bn over the last 2 years. Previously, William held the role of Chief Operating Officer, Upstream Regions with accountability for leading the strategy and business for 12 operating regions, and a member of the upstream executive team. In 2014, William was the Chief of Staff and Head of the CEO’s office for 4 years based in London where he worked in support of the CEO in managing the bp’s business activities across the upstream, downstream, trading, alternative energy, and corporate functions. Prior to this, William was Regional President, Asia Pacific based in Jakarta for nearly 6 years, responsible for BP’s upstream operational and p&l activities covering Indonesia, Australia, China, Vietnam and commercial activities in Japan, Korea and Singapore. In 2004, William was Vice President, Development and Operations for Egypt based in Cairo for 5 years where he developed the strategy for and built a new integrated gas business in the Mediterranean. During his 25 years with BP, he has held other key leadership roles in project management, commercial and business development in Shanghai, Aberdeen, London, Cairo and Houston where he started initially with Amoco Corporation. Since 2018, William has served as a non-executive board director and vice-chairman for Pan American Energy Group, the largest independent integrated energy company in Argentina with businesses in Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Mexico. He is a member of the Trilateral Commission and of the Accenture Global Energy Board. William has also previously been the senior non-executive director of VICO (Virginia Indonesia Company), a leading oil and gas producer and pioneer for LNG in Indonesia as well as a number of both independent and joint-venture operating companies in Egypt. William has served as a senior advisor to Palantir Technologies, a software/data analytics company from 2017-2019. William has 30 years of energy experience and holds an M.S. (Honours) in Management and Policy and a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He has attended executive education at MIT Sloan School of Management. William was born in the US, raised in Los Angeles and speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese.
