Yuka C. Koshino

Yuka Koshino is a Research Fellow for Security and Technology Policy at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), where she carries out independent research for the Defence and Military Analysis Programme and the Japan Chair Programme on the impact of emerging technologies on security from defence and geo-economic perspectives. Her research areas including US Asia grand strategy, technology and national security, and Japanese foreign, defense, and security policies. She received her B.A. in law from Keio University in Tokyo and her M.A. in Asian studies from the Walsh School of Foreign Service of Georgetown University. Ms. Koshino is International Strategy Forum Fellow at Schmidt Futures (2023– ), and was Matsumoto-Sanata Fellow at the Asia Pacific Institute (2019–21), Japanese Delegate for G20 Summit Japan Youth Summit (2019), and International Fellow for Presidential Fellowship Program 2015–16 at the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress (where she received the David M. Abshire Award). She is the co-author of Japan’s Effectiveness as a Geo-Economic Actor: Navigating Great-Power Competition.
